Entry for Scrap Around the World Challenge and C’est Magnifique Kit Club

And so…what have I been busy from the last post till now. In the midst of helping the two older kids revise for their examinations, I signed on for a Skin and Hair Coloring Class by Alyce of Kit and Clowder. She is amazingggg at coloring, and she has patiently created a number of online coloring classes to teach and share her coloring techniques. I pondered for quite awhile before I decided to take the plunge to purchase one of her classes. After all, card making and coloring is the fastest creative and crafty outlet for me now, given my busy schedule with the three kids.

And just like that, in the midst of chauffeuring A1 through her basketball practices and matches, juggling exam revision and church choir practices and performances, exams are over! How did time fly by so fast? I am not complaining for I finally have some wind down time of my own to create and take part in some challenges which had inspired me while I was surfing the net and sitting next to the two kids while they revised their work.

I am entering the layout below for the November challenge at Scrap Around the World and C’est Magnifique Kit Club.  The former has a mood board challenge for this month and the colors are so autumn-y and screams me! Yellow, orange and pink hues just go so well together and I just had to scrap the picture of A3 wearing a dress in that color combination for Deepavali celebration in school. You can’t tell from the picture because I edited it to black and white but the colors were just apt.

Mood Board at Scrap Around The World

Over at C’est Magnifique, a sketch was provided for their November challenge, and I thought I will try it out, after seeing the beautiful works of the DT.

LoveI added some loud pink paint from Artisan Anthology to embossing paste and stirred in some light pink spun sugar from Prima as well. The pink color was toned down immediately and gave such a strawberry-ice-cream-yummilicious color which sparkled from the spun sugar that I couldn’t resist mixing up more to add to the page using the hearts mask from Tim Holtz.

I then dug out all my mists from Mister Huey’s and Dylusions and misted all over, sprinkling and dripping here and there. I had wanted to use orange initially but I couldn’t find any amongst my stash! (How could it be!) So I used some Spiced Marmalade from my Tim Holtz Distress Inks and brushed over another mask to create the spots and water marks. I kept my embellishing simple, using some burlap, a music score sheet, a doily and some masking tape as inspired by the mood board. Flowers were from my Prima stash (which doesn’t seem to be getting lesser regardless of the amount of flowers I have used on my gifts and layouts), and the fairy chipboards were from Petaloo. I only used the Wink of Stella pen in Gold for the wings and also dabbed some in Clear Glitter on the flowers as I did not want to overwhelm the entire layout in sparkly bling and also dabbed some in Clear Glitter on the flowers

I was really in mixed media mood and I just had to stamp and emboss the “I just Love you” stamp from Technique Tuesday’s Ali Edwards stamp. Ali Edwards stopped her collaboration with Technique Tuesday so I bought as many of her stamps as I could afford when I heard that! And then I stitched the word ‘Love’ to draw attention to it as the title.

I am so so so proud of myself for completing this layout in under 3 hours as I was sooo inspired by the mood board and sketch provided. Now to catch up on my Project Life and coloring class before I get distracted again with the school holidays and Christmas preparations. Can’t believe 2014 is coming to an end soon…

Meanwhile, please hop over to Scrap Around the World and C’est Magnifique to try out this month’s challenges!

Love this layout & wanted to “feature” it on our facebook page but you must have this blog on a setting that won’t allow me to copy this picture. Such a shame because I know our followers would love to see it. If you would like to forward me a copy of it, in perhaps a private message via facebook, we will definitely feature it.
Cheers Di Garling for Scrap Around the World.

Teacher’s Day Gifts

What have I been up to in the last two weeks… …busy, busy stressing over Teacher’s Day Gifts for the children’s teachers. I am thankful that the three kids have met very good and dedicated teachers since they started attending playgroups. I always make it a point to prepare handmade gifts for the teachers so that I can involve the kids one way or another. This year, I made some thank-you frames for the teachers and baked cookies together with the eldest and youngest to give away to them. The boy attends afternoon school so he was not around to help out.

I prepared 17 frames altogether for the children’s teachers… and I was so worried that I couldn’t finish them in time even though I started in early August. I only have an hour of spare time everyday after the kids are in bed before I can get started on the projects. It takes awhile to settle in and just a little stamping and coloring here and there, it’s time for bed. I make it a point not to sleep too late because I drive the three kids around in the day and I really don’t want to doze off at the wheel! Lol!

Anyhow, these are the frames made for the teachers. A1’s and A3’s teachers are mainly ladies, so they will be receiving the ones stamped with the Gorjuss girls images from Sugar Nellie. The boy stamp (also from Sugar Nellie) is used for A2’s teachers. Then A1 wanted to present something to her basketball coach and teacher-in-charge, so I trawled the internet to look for the basketball girl and super-heroine digi stamps. For their piano and chinese tutors, who teach all 3 of them Music and Chinese, I used the Mama elephant stamps with the 3 children instead.

Some close-ups of my favorites.

I love the Mama Elephant In My Heart Stamp set. I randonly drew a slope and water-colored the background with Neo-Colors crayons. The images of the children were colored with copics and the sunburst is from another Mama Elephant stamp set. I embossed the word’ THANKS’ with some sparkly embossing powder and added the small flowers from Prima and used stickles for their centers. Had a lot of fun creating this, because it had been some time since I played with mediums.
Love this Gorjuss girl on a swing. Reminds me of little, lost A3 swinging sadly in her school playground on the first few days of school. Now she is a happy bird, looking forward to school everyday, thanks to loving and caring teachers! Added a bit of foam squares for dimension and glittery stickles for some bling!

This is for A1’s teacher in charge of basketball. Obviously, she is not too girlish. A mother of two but rugged, so I guess this stamp is apt. I stamped and colored those blocks of housing from Studio Calico’s stamp set and then created the background with watercolors again. It was meant to be a night scene so I added dots of stickles for stars!

And the ‘Thank You’ words were stamped on first and then stitched.

Basketball Girl Digi Stamp for the basketball coach. She is not too girlish either and I also hand-stitched the ‘Thank You’ words.

That’s all for the month of August. It was satisfying playing with the stamps which I have been buying but setting aside for a long while. A rest before the end-of-year examination frenzy starts and with two girls born in November and December respectively, plus Christmas… I guess I can start planning again really soon!

A New Canvas and A Winner!

Wow!!! I can’t believe we are already in the second half of 2014.

I just learnt a new phrase and can’t agree with it enough- The days are long and the years are short! Everyday, as I go through the routine of getting the three kids ready for school at different timings, spending some time with each of them, winding down at nights and sending them off to bed, I can’t wish enough for the nightfall so that the kids are tugged snugly in bed and I can start on my creating.

Today, I am sharing a mini canvas which I had created for a dear cousin of my husband’s some time back. We practically watched her grow up. When the hubster and I first started dating, she was around 5 or 6 years old and this year, she turns 21! She loves baking and her cakes are yummilicious! I roped her in to help me bake and set up the dessert table at the hubster’s birthday party. She is really good at what she does and if anyone wants her contact, check out #teaxcakes on Instagram.

So this canvas was created as a token of appreciation for her. Did I mention that she is a really good artist too? I was so shy to gift her this. Anyhow, I stamped the Julie Nutting Doll Stamp from Prima, colored her using Copics, Twinkling H2Os and pieced some Webster Pages to make her dress. The canvas was gesso-ed upon (is there such a word? Lol!), misted and I mixed some Golden Acrylic Pink paint into some texture paste and applied over a mask to get the background. Of course, there’s the usual stamping and embellishing thereafter.  The actual and some close-ups are in the picture below.

I promised a giveaway in my earlier post and the following number was generated from

13@rts July Challenge and A Small Giveaway!

As promised, I am back to share with you on a layout that I have just created last week. Encouraged and inspired by a dear friend, Jelissa whom I met over scrapbooking at class a few years ago, I bought some Blue Fern Studios paper and chipboards and was all ready to start scrapping layouts again. Project Life was an outlet for quick release but nothing beats the joy of getting your fingers inky and dirty, splattering paste all over and putting together all the elements on a layout. I like to let my projects dry naturally. It’s really fast in our Singapore weather and it suits me fine, allowing me to work on it bit by bit…

Over at 13@rts , a Polish company with their own exotic range of mixed media products, they are having a Sketch, Mediums and Butterflies Challenge for the month of July. It’s just so so me! I just had to try this out! So over the last three days, I had been planning in my head what to do with my layout and we just had our family photos taken last month. I had been eagerly waiting to scrap the photos after the school holidays had ended and now that, the kids were back in school, I have a little bit more time to myself again.

So over 2 hours (spread over 3 days), I gesso-ed and stamped and stenciled and colored using Twinkling H2Os, fussy cut and distressed and painted and misted and ended up with this!

I started with the background. Gesso, stamped the french script, colored over the Tim Holtz Hearts Stencil using my Twinkling H2Os, distressed the edges using chalk ink, stamped randomly butterfly images with Distress Inks and finally added some misting to it.

Then I painted the chipboard which I had wanted to be the focus of my layout, with acrylic paints from Golden. I mixed the yellow and teal togther and sponged on some Distress Inks again after it was dry. I added some more silver mica flakes from Golden again after it was dry. Check out the close- up below!

Then I gathered my elements and started putting them together. The teal colored burlay, prima flowers and stickers were again distressed further.

I had totally enjoyed myself doing this up. You’ll find that I still had my previous blog address watermarked in the images. Well, I was in two heads about keeping that blog for my scrapbooking but it’s just easier and more convenient to use wordpress and I had all my old blog posts from that blog imported over! Thank God, it’s finally complete and that brings me to the exciting part of this post.

I have prepared a small giveaway to celebrate my return! Yippee yay yay!!!  You will find stamps, journal cards, prima flowers, some stickers and embellishments… all part of my favourite stash for giveaway. (Pardon the photos as I have to take them at home since I have hurt my foot in a freak accident.) All you have to do is to leave a comment on my blog to say that you have been here to visit and I will randomly pick a winner. Giveaway will close on 31 July, 12 noon, Singapore time.

Giveaway Items: Prima flowers, Leaves and more Flowers, Brads, Alphabet Stamps from Inkadinkado, Round floral Stamp, MME Quite Contrary Die-cuts, Prima Journalling Cards, Maya Road Chipboards and Felt Items, MME Journalling Papers etc.

Close- Ups

All Ready…

Hello! Hellooo!! Hellooooo!

Has it been that long? I cut myself off my blogging and scrapbooking after A3 was born. I did try to attempt a layout or two, bought some papers here and there when I couldn’t resist the prettiness of them. But I didn’t scrap or blog or keep myself updated on trends or followed anymore scrapper’s blogs. I just wanted to take a break. The two older kids were getting more difficult with the eldest reaching tweenhood. I was terribly sleep deprived because I was nursing the youngest till she was almost 2.

Then, I decided…maybe I will not scrap anymore… so I joined a couple of scrapbooking groups on facebook, in an attempt to de-stash some of the stuff which I really do not use anymore. I was hoping to recover some of the money I had spent on scrapbooking supplies. Then, in some of the groups, these ladies shared their lovely works. Also, I got to know about Project Life.  It seems like a simple and easy system which I can try when I can squeeze out pockets of time and I could use up existing stash. And the rest… … they say is history!

So, I am back! I am on track with my Project Life, though I am not sure if I want to share my pages just yet because they do contain a lot of information on my family and myself which are really private and I would like to keep to myself for now. I am trying to create cards in between when I am free. It is easy to stamp an image, carry that to anywhere in the house with my copics or watercolor crayons and start coloring. Sometimes, I even attempt a mixed media canvas or layout when inspiration strikes. I am back to buying supplies again! Sighs… when I am supposed to be selling off stash… And I am blog hopping and reading craft and creative magazines again.

I had initially started this blog mainly for my photography clients but I was too lazy to keep updating it and since I have paid for the domain and all, I have decided to import my previous scrapbooking blog over and start blogging from here. After all, scrappy mum of two is now scrappy mum of three!

So… welcome me back! And welcome my readers back!

Will be posting a layout which I have just completed tomorrow, along with a small giveaway to celebrate a new start! Look out for them!

Finally, I leave with this pin from pinterest. I have taken a different journey in the last two years, but now I know… …I had not been lost, I was just looking for that lost love, that lost mojo..

love this.. I have it on the back of my front door.. reminds me that I am free to wander wherever I want..
